Scholarships Requirements for Science and Math Students
Admission Requirements:
All students must possess or be a candidate for an undergraduate or masters degree in math or science from an accredited college or university.
A grade of B (3.0 cumulative index) or better in previous undergraduate and graduate work is generally expected for admission.
Candidates must provide a written commitment to seek employment as a teacher in a high needs school in New York State before admission into the program.
Program Requirements:
Pre-requisites:
Educational Psychology
One year of a college level foreign language or its equivalent
Two weeks of structured field experiences
Core requirements:
Psychology of Teaching
Psychology of Teaching Laboratory
Curriculum and Methods of Teaching Mathematics or Science
Essential Reading Literacy
Writing in the Content Classroom
Seminars on Special Needs Populations, Assessment and School Reform
Additional requirements:
One-year teaching internship
Master’s research (either a two-term thesis in the discipline or a one-term classroombased project
Three to five STEM electives
Commitments Upon Graduation:
Graduates must seek employment as a teacher in a high needs school (generally a city school district) in New York State, and teach at such a school for four years.
Earning Your Teaching Certification:
Candidates must pass all required examinations for the certification title to qualify for an initial teaching certificate in New York State.
