MAT Scholarships and Tuition Waivers
A limited number of program fellowships or fee-remission scholarships are available. Students who qualify based on financial need may receive some assistance in the form of tuition reduction. Applications for graduate MAT assistantships are available from the School of Education office.
The Dean’s Scholarship: The Admissions Committee automatically reviews each applicant for merit scholarship based on previous coursework and rigor of the undergraduate portfolio. A prestigious merit award, the Dean’s Scholarship, is distributed in the form of course tuition waiver(s). Scholarship recipients take the courses needed to meet program requirements, but tuition is waived for one and occasionally more courses. This reduces the total cost of the program.
Need-Based Tuition Scholarship: The Union Graduate College MAT program is recognized statewide as the gold standard in teacher preparation. It is more rigorous than most programs and requires more credits—53 instead of the typical 36-42. However, students in the Union Graduate College MAT program only pay for 40 of the 53 credits, so the per-credit cost is very competitive. Even so, because the cost may be difficult for some students to afford, Union Graduate College provides limited need-based tuition assistance. All students who complete the FASFA are assessed for need-based tuition waiver support through our Financial Aid office. To qualify, students must also complete the
application for need-based scholarship.
Articulation Agreements: UGC has articulation agreements with Hamilton College and Skidmore College. Graduates of these institutions with GPAs of 3.3 or above take all of the required MAT courses, but pay only for 10 of those courses. These students are also eligible for the Need-Based Tuition Scholarship and the Deans’ Scholarships.
The Union Graduate College-Union College Course Waiver Program: In recognition of their strong academic performance, Union College students with a GPA of 3.25 or higher may use two of their upper division undergraduate courses toward both their undergraduate degree and the MAT degree at Union Graduate College. This represents a significant savings in time and money.
The Harriet and Roscoe L. Williams ‘30 Endowed Scholarship: This scholarship was established in memory of Harriet and Roscoe L. Williams, whose lives of dedication and service enriched schools and communities in Dutchess County, Adirondack, and Capital District regions of New York State. The Williams family provides scholarship assistance to highly qualified MAT graduate students who are preparing for careers in classroom teaching and educational administration in New York.

Merit Based MBA Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded starting in late April and are awarded as long as funds are available.
Full Time Graduate Students
Full-time MBA degree program students are automatically considered for scholarships and need not fill out a separate scholarship form. As long as funds are available, scholarships are given based on academic achievement (GPA) and GMAT results.
Union Graduate College students are expected to maintain excellence to maintain scholarship status. Accelerated BS/BA/MBA students who wish to qualify for merit scholarships should take the GMAT regardless of their grade point average at Union College. Scholarships cannot be awarded while still a Union College student.
Part-time MBA Students
Students pursuing the MBA on a part-time basis will be considered for merit scholarships based on that portion of their tuition not reimbursable by an employer. Tuition waivers will be awarded. Students interested in being considered for part-time financial aid must inform the Director of Graduate Admissions and Registrar in writing and submit a copy of their employer’s tuition benefits policy.
International Students
International graduate study students will be considered on an individual basis for merit-based scholarships.
