The Office of Graduate Admissions and Registration of Union Graduate College has a Student Accounts Assistant who will process loan disbursements.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan Program
Matriculated full-time or part-time graduate students who are United States citizens or permanent residents and are taking at least one course per term during the academic year may be eligible for a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Interest rates are fixed at 6.8% on loans borrowed after July 1, 2006. Loans borrowed before July 1, 2006 are subject to a variable interest rate for the life of the loan.
Students interested in acquiring a federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan should download the following forms (Links available on the MyUGC Portal. If you do not have access to the portal, the financial aid office can provide you with a checklist and forms or click on appropriate box below for the academic year you will be attending for checklist, forms and links.) :
***Beginning in academic/aid year 2012-2013 - graduate students are no longer eligible for federal Subsidized student loans if the loan period begins after July 1, 2012.
For the 2012- 2013 Academic Year if you are starting classes after July 1, 2012. Financial aid will cover Summer 2012, Fall 2012, Winter 2013, and Spring 2013.
For the 2013- 2014 Academic Year - financial aid will cover Summer 2013, Fall 2013, Winter 2014, and Spring 2014.
In order for Union Graduate College to process your federal Direct Unsubsidized
student loan application, we must receive the following information from you as noted
below.(All links and documents are also available on the
MyUGC Student Portal. Go to ‘My Financial Aid’ then ’Dir Unsub Loans 13-14’).
NOTE: If your FAFSA is selected for verification by the Dept. of Education you will be contacted at that time to provide further documentation to the Financial Aid Office.

**Please note: if you have already completed a Stafford or Unsubsidized Loan Entrance Counseling session once for Union Graduate College you do not have to complete again for subsequent years.
You may also opt to contact the Financial Aid Office to request a packet of the above materials be emailed to you or sent to your home address.
Federal GradPLUS Loan Program
Please contact the Financial Aid Office for more information about this loan.
- Student must be a fully matriculated student in a degree-granting program and must also be enrolled in at least half-time status.
- Student must borrow maximum Direct Unsubsidized Direct loans first before applying for a GradPLUS loan.
- Student must be credit-worthy and will be subjected to a credit check when applying for a GradPLUS loan.

Alternative/Private Education Loans
Various types of alternative/private education loans are also available through the Union Graduate College Financial Aid Office, including loans for non-matriculated students, those who have exceeded Stafford loan maximums, as well as loans for international students who have a co-signer who is a US citizen or permanent resident. Loan approval is based on a review of credit worthiness and ability to repay. Loans are funded through private lenders and financial institutions.
