Union Graduate College Names New Dean of School of Management
Eric E. Lewis, Ph.D. has been
named Dean of the School of Management at Union Graduate College, effective
July 1, 2009.
Lewis currently chairs the
accounting department at Ithaca College. He is also a visiting professor at Cornell University. Funded through a grant from Ernst & Young, Cornell tapped Lewis to
develop an accounting concentration in its Applied Economics and Management
program. He has also taught several courses at Union Graduate College.
In addition to his academic
appointments, Lewis is a partner in Sage Financial, a boutique consultancy in Clifton Park, providing business valuation, quantitative modeling and litigation support
services to corporations.
“Dr. Lewis is an outstanding
scholar with a proven track record of leadership, especially in creating
exciting and innovative management programs that will serve our students well,”
said Dr. Laura Schweitzer, President of Union Graduate College. “While
currently a leader in academic business in western New York, he has the Capital
Region connections to effectively expand academic partnership programs that Union Graduate College is known for. And those connections will help our students continue
to land good jobs in the region’s top companies.”
As Dean, Lewis will oversee Union Graduate College’s School of Management, one of only 21 graduate schools in the United States accredited by both The Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Management Education (CAHME) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools
of Business (AACSB). Union Graduate College is the only
such dually accredited program from Boston to Ithaca. Currently, 300 students
are enrolled in the MBA program, which includes full and part-time programs.
Melvin Chudzik, the current Dean
of the School of Management, will continue to teach the college’s MBA Capstone
Course as well as lead the MBA study program in China.
Prior to his work at Ithaca and Cornell, Lewis was a tenured accounting professor at Skidmore College in Saratoga and an assistant professor at SUNY New Paltz. He received his Ph.D and MBA
(both in Accounting) from Union Graduate College and a B.S. in Finance from Siena College.
Lewis resides in Clifton Park with his wife and two children.
